VIDEO PROJECTS
I received the clips in June of 2022 when my friend wanted to edit it himself but I wanted to as well. The video went through two editing stages. First half was in October of the same year. During that that time I got the basic structure until the first chorus, color correction and blurs. Second half after a really long break in April 2023. I finished the clip selection and started working on the After Effects related shots. The polaroid shot is my personal favorite. Also the pacing changes in the later half and focuses more on the lyrics and the composition. There is an obvious VHS look to it which was the final step to completing it. Duplicating the final render and adding to the second layer some more blur and using a blend mode. This creates the bloom and shake was just the wiggle expression.
During the semester we were delving into 3D and VFX. 3D modeling mainly which was something that I enjoyed learning.
I created a 3D environment, an extraterrestrial kind. Aside from the modeling I also created camera shots and animated those. The compositing elements were done in After Effects. The beginning had a game-like holographic menu screen which was a lot of fun to do. This transitioned to the main 3D element – a portal of sorts. Close-up shots and ultrawides were composited after exporting the shots from Cinema 4D. I decided exporting being the best course of action to avoid any accidental changes or my computer screaming. The ending with the portal opening and creating a malfunction within the software. This was executed with a personal favourite – glitches.
Genesis
My most recent project was the intro video for the school’s fashion show “Genesis”.
The class assignment was to create an intro video for Genesis. Editing was done independently and filming the models was done with the class as a group. There were two filming days and we used two cameras (Sony Z280 and Sony FX6).
After the filming, over 280+ clips were created into HD proxies* due to filming in 4K. I visually planned to split every outfit into four seconds so that it would sustain interest and keep the time limit which was one minute.
The editing style was done mostly with intuition and using my moodtape* as inspiration. I used masks for creative freedom and effects for visual interest and transitions (After Effects). Afterwards, I did the color correction in Premiere Pro. The project was done in a total of 14 hours.
*proxy is lower resolution copy of the original or raw media that is used in the editing process so that the computer doesn’t slow down.
*moodboard in a video form, visually explaining the style for the planning process)
DREAMLAND
The teaser became an unreleased post due to assignments changing. I used the photos taken by the photographer and edited in After Effects with black and white elements and a dissolve effect.
Ledstore interview
My first interview.
The class assignment was to do a client job. That meant we did pre-production planning as well. There were two filming days and we used the Sony Z280.
After the filming, editing was done in communication with the client with sending multiple iterations of the video. After two weeks of going back and forth from school and home, it was finished. The editing style was a lot more relaxed compared to other projects due needing to show information and story. It happened to be a nice change of pace. I also did color correction for the first time with instructional classes from the teacher.
